Kozhikode: The Fast Track POCSO Court in Kozhikode sentenced a man to 40 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for sexually abusing a three-and-a-half-year-old. The accused, Iyas, also known as Riyas (47), is a resident of Anamad, Kallayi.

Judge C S Ambili pronounced the verdict, imposing a fine of Rs 60,000 on the convict. Of this amount, Rs 50,000 is to be paid to the survivor. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional eight months of imprisonment for the accused.

According to the prosecution, Riyas assaulted his relative’s daughter at her residence in October. Station Inspector P Anil Kumar led the investigation and filed the charge sheet. Advocate R N Rajan represented the prosecution during the trial.
