Wayanad: Inter-state passengers en route to Kerala from Karnataka had a miraculous escape after a KSRTC super deluxe bus nearly plunged into a gorge on the mountain pass (churam) at Thamarassery on Saturday.

The bus had several passengers onboard. All of them are reportedly safe.

The Mysore-Thiruvananthapuram service was heading towards Kozhikode Saturday afternoon, downhill, when it veered off the ghat road and broke the protection wall.

Nearly half of the bus went over the wall; the vehicle appeared stuck on the trees on the ledge preventing a disaster.

The passengers and passersby acted swiftly and helped those inside to deboard the vehicle to safety.

The incident occurred at the seventh hairpin bend of the ghat road resulting in a traffic block for hours.
