Kochi: Serious allegations have been raised against P V Sreenijin, CPM’s Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Kunnathunad, related to the murder of C K Deepu, Kizhakkambalam area secretary of the non-profit organisation Twenty20.

According to Sabu M Jacob, managing director of garment-maker Kitex and promoter of Twenty20, Sreenijan is the real culprit behind Deepu’s death. “Kizhakkambalam was a peaceful place till Sreenijin got elected as the MLA of the area in 2021. Now he has unleashed goons everywhere in Kizhakkambalam in order to contain Twenty20,” said Jacob, who is now out-of-station as part of his business activities.

“Twenty20 is in power in four panchayats in the area. Whenever some developmental work is carried out in the panchayats, the MLA arrives there and obstructs the activity. He seems to have no work other than disrupting the functioning of Twenty20,” alleged Jacob.

“Sadly, the police too don’t intervene as Sreenijin belongs to the ruling party. The goons have received the message that they won’t be touched,” he added.

According to Jacob, Deepu was attacked when a ‘Lights off’ protest was staged at Kizhakkambalam. “The protest was totally peaceful. Nobody marched through the streets or staged picketing. The protesters only stayed inside their homes and switched off lights,” he pointed out.

Moreover, Sreenijin was reportedly present in a house next to Deepu’s when the attack took place, said Jacob.

“Those arrested in the case are mere tools. The brain is the MLA,” he said.

“When the panchayat member tried to save Deepu, the attackers threatened her too by commenting that they would immolate her when the MLA arrives at the spot,” said Jacob.

“We will consider filing a complaint against the MLA after I return to Kizhakkambalam, possibly on Saturday,” he revealed.

Jacob also blamed the LDF government in Kerala for harassing Kitex. “Every agency, except the CBI, has raided the company,” he said.
