Thrissur: Though decked up in bridal attire, Vidya was teary-eyed as she left her home at Kunduvara in Thrissur district. Memories of her brother Vipin, who ended his life as he could not raise money for his sister's wedding, overwhelmed her. Her mother Baby too struggled to hold back her tears.

Vipin, 25, had ended his life as he was unable to get a loan for his sister’s marriage. He became a victim to the custom of giving money and jewellery to the bride on her wedding day.

But his wish has been fulfilled. The wedding of his sister Vidya with Nithin was held between 8.30am and 9.30am on Wednesday morning at the Paramekkavu Temple in Thrissur.

However, the family had endured great hardships during this one month. The wedding was scheduled to be held on December 12.  Vipin had gone to the town on December 6 to buy gold and garments for the wedding. Though he waited for long, he did not get the bank loan. Disillusioned, Vipin returned home and ended his life.

Nithin, who was set to marry Vidya after two years of romance, was also left distraught by Vipin's demise. But after the tragic incident, several people reached out to the family with gold and money. Still, nothing could replace what had been lost.

As Nithin has to leave for abroad for his job, the wedding had to be held without much delay.
