Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala's tally of the Omicron variant of coronavirus has reached 64 after seven fresh cases were confirmed Tuesday.

Health Minister Veena George said that four of the latest cases were reported in Pathanamthitta. Alapuzha district had two new cases while Thiruvananthapuram had one on the day.

One of the cases in Pathanamthitta, a 51-year-old man, had contracted the virus through contact. Two others, aged 32 and 40, had arrived recently from the UAE while a fourth case was reported in a 28-year-old returnee from Ireland.

In Alappuzha district, a nine-year-old boy who came from Italy and a 37-year-old man who landed from Qatar, were confirmed with the latest variant.

A 48-year-old man who came from Tanzania is the latest Omicron case in the capital city. The confirmation was made following detailed tests done at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology.
