Kottayam: A migrant worker died as a scooter rammed a KSRTC bus in Kottayam on Saturday night.
The victim was West Bengal native Sankar, 40, who lived at a rented accommodation in Chungam. Sankar was riding pillion on the two-wheeler.
A Kollad native, Ebenezer Joseph, was riding the scooter. The 55-year-old, who suffered grievous injuries in the accident, was first admitted to the general hospital and then shifted to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital.
The accident happened near Pulimoodu junction around 10:55pm on Saturday.
The scooter rammed the KSRTC bus that was on its way to the bus stand from Kodimatha. The KSRTC bus conducts services along the Sulthan Bathery route.
The scooter was heading to Thirunakkara from the bus stand. The scooter riders, who were trapped underneath the bus, were taken out by the fire force, police and Youth Congress workers. They were then shifted to the hospital.
Sankar had started working for Ebenezer, who took up welding contract works, about two weeks ago. The duo could have been on their way to Sankar's place after completing welding works at a shop in the town when the accident happened, according to the police.
