Palluruthy: In a tragic incident, Rajalakshmi, 28, who gave birth to twins after she was tested positive for COVID-19, succumbed to severe pneumonia.

Rajalakshmi, is the wife of Shinoj, a resident of AD Puram Veedu, Indira Gandhi Road, Edakochi. She was admitted to the Kalamassery Medical College on September 14 after being tested positive for COVID-19. The lady who was eight months pregnant at the time of admission to hospital, had to be shifted to a private hospital after she developed severe pneumonia infection. Subsequently she gave birth to the twins at the private hospital and one of the babies also tested positive for COVID-19.

With pneumonia infection getting worse, it affected kidneys and finally resulted in her death. The babies, who are COVID negative now, are healthy and safe.

Rajalakshmi had conceived after a wait of many years and spending lakhs of rupees for various procedures including Invitro Fertilization. The family had to spend over Rs 10 lakh following the premature delivery after contracting COVID-19 infection and the associated health complications that she had developed. Manorama had earlier given a report on their pathetic condition.

The cremation of Rajalakshmi, who belongs to Balaramapuram in Thiruvananthapuram, took place at Edakochi on Monday.
