Kozhikode: The prime suspect in the Koodathayi serial killings, Jolly Joseph, duped others by arming herself with not just fabricated will but also educational documents as per the latest probe details available from police sources. The investigators have unearthed more shocking details about the 47-year-old who is under custody as multiple investigations over the alleged murder of her first husband and five other members of his family at Koodathayi village in Kerala's Kozhikode district are on.
Jolly, who had not even cleared the erstwhile Pre-Degree Course (PDC), however possessed provisional certificates of B Com and M Com. These documents were issued by the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.
The police had found the certificates during a search of the house at Koodathai. The police suspect that Jolly had procured the certificates to prove that she was a professor with the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Calicut.
The police have sent requests to the registrars of the above universities to verify the authenticity of the certificates. If these certificates turn out to be fake, the police would be able to prove that the Jolly had forged documents before also.
Earlier the cops had found her claims to be a NIT professor to be a lie as well.
Post marriage, Jolly, a native of Kattappana in the Idukki district, had told everyone at Koodathayi in the northern district that she was an M Com graduate. The police had, however, found that Jolly, who had attended the PDC at a college in Nedumkandam in Idukki, had not sat for her final-year exam. But she had reportedly joined for the B Com course at a parallel college in Pala.
The probe team is trying to find out how Jolly managed to join for B Com course without first clearing PDC. Even then, Jolly did not complete her B Com course despite attending classes for a while.
Jolly told everyone that she had studied at a prominent aided college at Pala. The police also found some certificates of computer courses at Jolly's house.
She is currently accused of forging a fake will to take over the family property of her first husband Roy Thomas.
She was arrested in October for Roy's murder. Her arrest and subsequent confession revealed the sinister plot in which poison-laced food or drink was given to eliminate her husband and his family members one after the other. Six members of the Ponnamattom family had died under mysterious circumstances over a period of 14 years from 2002.
She has owned up to these murders as reported earlier. The police have filed separate cases for each of the deaths. She has already been arrested in the murder cases of Roy and his relatives Sily and Alphine. She is about to be booked for the murder of Mathew Manjadiyil, who was Roy's maternal uncle. The two other pending cases are over the deaths of Roy's parents.
