Kundara: At least six police cases have been filed against an Iranian couple, who were recently nabbed for stealing money from a shop at Kundara in Kerala's Kollam district.

The cops have received information that the couple - Amir Kamiabi (27) and his wife Nasrin Kamiar, 20, - had committed similar crimes at five other places too.

After the couple's arrest was reported in media, the police received more complaints about the couple from different parts of Kerala.

Apart from Kundara, the cases were filed at stations in Kollam West, Tripunithura Hill Palace, Pooyappally, Chathanoor and Irinjalakuda. A special squad from Pathanamthitta too would question the couple to find out if they were behind a similar fraud in the district.

The police also found that two other Iranians, who were staying at a lodge in Kollam, had left after the couple's arrest. The police would check if they were with the Iranian couple and find out the motive of their visit.

The police also plan to seek the custody of the couple, who have been remanded, for further questioning. They have also sought the help of a bilinguist.

The couple, who came to the shop at Chandanathoppil in Kundara under the pretext of buying soap, tried to flee with the money on Sunday. They were caught after a chase and handed over to the police.

Rs 1 lakh stolen from Tripunithura shop

The couple had committed fraud at the Agnus Enterprises at Thiruvankulam in Tripunithura, Ernakulam, on August 30. The couple, who came to the shop under the pretext of buying cane chairs, fled with Rs 1 lakh.

The couple first fixed four chairs they wanted to buy and then they told the salesman that they had only Dollar notes with them. They also claimed that they had never set their eyes on the Indian Rupee and asked if the desi currency notes could be shown to them. The salesman showed them around Rs 1 lakh that was kept at the shop to be deposited at the bank. The couple then fled with the money. The police at the Hill Place station in Tripunithura have filed a case over the incident.

The couple had also fled with Rs 8,000 from a shop that falls under the limits of the Kottayam West police station.
