New cap for cops in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police caps are set for a makeover. All officers will be wearing the beret caps instead of the current peak caps. As of now, only the senior cops have permission to use the beret caps.
The decision to change the caps was made at a staff council meet led by DGP Loknath Behera. The cops had earlier complained that the current caps tend to fall off during action, especially in strife situations, and the officers struggle to protect these caps. They had informed of their dilemma to the Kerala Police association and officers' association.
The seniors also took into consideration the difficulties of using the peak caps during hot weather conditions, while making the decision to shift to beret caps.
Once the decision comes into effect, all cops from the Civil Police Officers (CPO) to Circle Inspectors (CI) would be given beret caps.
Lower-rank officers will be given black caps and those in SI-, CI-ranks will get navy blue caps. Senior officers from the rank of DySPs will continue to use the royal blue caps.
