Kottayam: MK Madhavan Nair, who was the editorial consultant of Bhashaposhini and Manorama Year Book, passed away here on Sunday. He was 90.

Nair, who belonged to the Koikkal Thekkel family in Pandalam, was born in 1928. He completed his education at the Zamorin College, Kozhikode, and Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, after graduating in Economics.

He joined the Sahithya Akademi and Sahithya Pravarthaka Cooperative Society (SPCS) in 1956 as publications manager, later assuming the post of its secretary in 1973. In 1984 he was appointed as the secretary of Kerala Sahithya Akademi, but returned to the SPCS in 1986 and assumed the post of its vice president in 1993. He had joined Malayala Manorama in 1992 on the editorial committee of Bhashaposhini and retired from the service in 2015.

His translation works include 'Pouranum Bharanaghatanayum,' 'Wright Brothers,' 'Kuttikalkkulla Kathakal,' 'Kumayonile Kaduvakal,' 'Benjamin Franklin,' 'Puthiya China,' 'Americayile Vidyabhyasam,' 'Jack London Kathakal,' and 'Pusthakathinte Katha' among others.

Nair is survived by wife K Saradamma (Leela) of Sasthamparambil House, Karappuzha, son M Madhuchandran (editor-in-charge, Vanitha) and daughters S Jayalakshmi, S Manju (Federal Bank, Kanjikkuzhi), daughter-in-law S Jitha (St. Mary’s School, Puthanangadi) and sons-in-law, Gopinathan Kartha and Anilkumar.

Malayala Manorama chief editor Mammen Mathew offered floral tributes to the deceased on behalf of the group.

The last rites will be held at his home at Karappuzha by 2 pm on Monday.
