Actor Joy Mathew has come out in support of actress Manju Warrier who was criticised by senior ministers of Kerala for backing out from the state government's plan to raise the 'women wall' on New Year's Day. .

Taking to his Facebook page, Joy said, “The women of today dreams of a sky without walls and probably building a wall in a community is against their dreams. And those who are aware of such things won't ever support any such wall like how Manju did.”

Initially, Manju had supported the initiative by posting a video of hers on Facebook. Later, she admitted a lapse from her side and backtracked explaining that she was unaware of the political side of the event.

Kerala minister G Sudhakaran flayed Manju's volt-face by saying it was time that the actor changed her 'looking glass'. "The women wall is not political. The problem is with Manju Warrier’s looking glass. I have only respect for her as an actor,” Sudhakaran had said the other day.

Minister M M Mani was also dismissive of Manju’s stand. He said that Manju’s backtracking would not affect the 'women wall' in any way.

The Congress-led UDF is up in arms against the women wall branding it a ‘communal wall.’

The state government decided to form a symbolic 'women wall' across the state on January 1 to counter the outfits which took to the streets in protest against a Supreme Court order allowing women of all age groups into Sabarimala. A slew of associations have backed the show of strength dubbed as a push to renaissance values.
