Tirur: A young man has gone missing after he, along with his accomplice, jumped into the Chamravattom River in a bid to shake off chasing police.

According to police, the youngsters were transporting sand illegally. They abandoned their vehicle and fled when the police stopped them.

One of them swam to safety, but the other one is untraced, an officer said.

Amid facing flak from the crowd, the police have began a search operation and two units of Fire and Rescue Force from Ponnani and divers have been called in for support.
