Who will succeed Kummanam? K Surendran leads the probables' list BJP leader K Surendran leads the list of probables.

Thiruvananthapuram: A day after the central leadership picked Kerala BJP chief Kummanam Rajasekharan to be Mizoram governor, speculations are rife that a young blood would be picked to lead the party in the state. State general secretary K Surendran leads the list of probables.

Sources also said that general secretary MT Ramesh and PS Sreedharan Pillai, NDA candidate for Chengannur assembly bypoll, are also contenders. However, the RSS has reportedly mooted the name of C Sadanandan who had lost his legs in an alleged CPM attack.

The new BJP leader for Kerala is likely to be named in the coming days. It is unlikely that the announcement will be delayed with Lok Sabha elections coming up next year.

Kummanam would replace Lt. General Nirbhay Sharma (retd) as governor of Mizoram after the latter completes his tenure on May 28, the Rashtrapati Bhavan had said in the statement on Friday night.

The BJP state leadership learnt about Kummanam’s posting as governor only after the official press release came out. The party central leadership had given no indications about the move. The change of the president is the first measure adopted by the BJP central leadership to revamp the party in the state before the Lok Sabha elections.
