The current Kerala chief minister's old parole letter is now on display at pavilion put up at the Kannur police ground as a part of the second anniversary celebrations of the LDF government in the state. The pavilion, which is prepared in the model of Kannur Central jail, also has several prison documents of many prominent personalities like former chief minister C Achutha Menon and Jnanpith Award-winner SK Pottekkatt.
Pinarayi was arrested during the Emergency under the notorious 'Misa' - the Maintenance of Internal Security Act. Pinarayi was taken into custody on September 28, 1975. It created an uproar then as the arrested person was an MLA. Home minister K Karunakaran had to face fierce opposition from other MLAs.
Later, in the assembly, Pinarayi described the custodial torture he had faced after the arrest. In all, 10 opposition MLAs were arrested in Kerala under 'Misa'.
