Cabinet gives nod, Tomin Thachankary to head KSRTC Tomin Thachankary, the Fire and Rescue Services director general, will take A Hemachandran's place

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala cabinet on Wednesday took some key decisions, including the takeover of the Pariyaram Medical College and changes at the helm of the KSTRC.

In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, the state cabinet decided to shift IPS officer A Hemachandran from the post of managing director of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) that is neck-deep in losses. Tomin Thachankary IPS, the Fire and Rescue Services director general, will take his place. The officer will also be additional DGP in charge of the Crime Records Bureau.

Hemachandran will take over as Fire and Rescue Services director general.

Medical college takeover

The cabinet recommended the state governor to issue an ordinance, taking over the medical college in Pariyaram and the Kerala Co-operative Hospital complex which is a part of it. The cabinet approved a draft of the Bill.

The move is to bring the college under government control and extend better medical facilities to people in north Kerala. The co-operative society running the college and the hospital had requested the government for a takeover as it was finding it hard to pull on. The Left Front government in 1997 had taken over the Pariyaram Medical College. But the UDF government that followed handed it over to the society.

The previous UDF government had decided to take over the college and the hospital, but it was not done. Efforts for the takeover were revived after the present government took over in 2016.

The cabinet has decided to sanction post-graduate diploma courses in Ayurveda colleges in Thiruvananthapuram, Tripunithura and Kannur medical colleges, as also at the Kottakkal Vaidyaratnam P S Warrier Ayurveda College.

Milma staff to get better pay

The cabinet decided to implement salary revision for Milma staff with retrospective effect from July 2016.

The government will be guarantor for Autocast Limited to obtain a loan of Rs 10 crore for its working capital.

A recommendation will be send to the state governor to issue an ordinance for amendment of provisions in the Panchayat Raj Act and the Kerala Municipalities Act, which stipulate that members of civic bodies have to submit details of assets and liabilities within 15 months of their swearing-in. The ordinance is aimed at extending the deadline to 30 months, because many members face disqualification since they are not able to meet the 15-month deadline.
