Thiruvananthapuram: Amid controversies over splurging, the Kerala government is planning to spend Rs 16 crore to celebrate its second anniversary.

Grand celebrations have been planned from May 1 to 31. The inaugurations of all projects that are nearing completion have been shifted to May. With this, some projects are likely to be completed early while others might be delayed. According to official sources, at least 5,000 inaugurations are expected during this period.

While sanctioning the celebrations, the government made it clear to officials that the expenditure should not overshoot Rs 16 crore budget.

On May 2, students will be presented a sapling and seeds along with the letter. On the same day, text books for all schools as well as uniform for LP and UP students will be distributed.

The celebrations will be inaugurated on May 18 in Kannur and the closing ceremony will be held in Thiruvananthapuram.
