Thiruvananthapuram: The authorities have issued a set of guidelines for people in the state as Cyclone Ochki closes in on Kerala. The cyclone is likely to cause maximum damage in the southern districts of the state, including Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.

• Keep the mobile phones, lamps charged

• Stay in the strongest part of the house, do not be in temporary constructions, sheds, and inside vehicles

• Do not be near trees, poles, under electric lines

• Stay away from open spaces, you may be swept away

• Listen to radio alerts

• Do not venture out after one bout of wind as the cyclones tail may only be coming from behind

• Keep emergency medicines handy

• Switch off power, gas cylinders

• Do not go near ponds, rivers, reservoirs, towers, lighthouses

Restrictions imposed

• Ban on tourists visiting hilly regions and water bodies

• No boating, trekking, and adventure sports

• District administrations asked to stock essential medicines, including for foreign tourists

• Special alert sounded in Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta

Alert for Sabarimala pilgrims

• No travel to the hill shrine from 6 pm to 7 am

Cyclone Ockhi heading towards Kerala: all you need to know The State Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert for Sabarimala pilgrims in the wake of Cyclone Ockhi closing in on Kerala.

• Avoid using the forest path till the alert is lifted

• Those at Sannidhanam and Pamba should be ready to stay put if authorities ask them to do so

• Do not rest near trees, waterbodies

• No bathing in rivers, ponds
