Kochi: The Angamaly First Class Judicial Magistrate Court on Saturday extended the remand of Malayalam actor Dileep, arrested in connection with the February 17 actress attack case, till September 28.
The court will pronounce the verdict on Dileep's bail plea on Monday, Manorama News reported.
The hearing on the plea completed around 4.30 pm. Earlier, the court postponed the hearing to noon, after the prosecution sought a deferral of the hearing, citing inconvenience. Meanwhile, a high-level meeting of the investigation team was held in the capital Saturday, triggering talk about a possible arrest.
Dileep's wife and actress Kavya Madhavan moved the court for anticipatory bail.
Dileep's fourth plea
In his plea, the actor requested the court to grant him bail as he has been accused of conspiracy alone.
He said the only case against him is that he hired Pulsar Suni, the prime accused, to capture nude photographs of the victim. He also pointed out that his remand period has passed over 60 days and that the investigation into it was over.
This is the fourth time that the actor is approaching a court for bail since he was arrested on July 10, after Pulsar Suni said that it was the actor who had commissioned him to assault the actress and film the act. The actress was waylaid and assaulted in a moving car on the night of February 17 in Kochi.
Earlier, the Kerala High Court had twice rejected Dileep's bail plea and the Angamaly First Class Judicial Magistrate, once.
The police had arrested Pulsar Suni, who had worked as a driver of many film personalities, six days after the incident. A letter which Suni purportedly wrote to Dileep had caused a furore. Dileep had undergone a marathon 13-hour grilling at the Aluva police club days ahead of his arrest.
