Kollam: The Kerala police have detained the boyfriend of a 23-year-old law student, who allegedly chopped off the genitals of a self-styled godman at her home in Thiruvananthapuram last month.
Her boyfriend, Ayyappadas, was taken into custody from Kottarakkara Wednesday. He had earlier filed a habeas corpus petition in the Kerala High Court, stating that the law student was kept under illegal confinement.

However, the police on Tuesday informed the court that the woman was not under any house arrest, but living with her father, mother and brother at a rented house at Nedumangad.
The police also said the woman was given police protection after she gave a written complaint that the petitioner, Ayyappadas, sexually exploited her after giving false assurance to marry her.
In the habeas corpus petition, Ayyappadas had claimed that he and the woman were in a relationship for more than a year. He had alleged the she was taken away forcibly from her house as a result of a criminal conspiracy hatched by some people close to the godman.
