The new Civic, the international presence in the Honda line-up, returned to India after a gap of six years. The latest model is the 10th generation of the sedan which was discontinued in 2013.

Star

The Civic has come to be synonymous with the Honda brand. First launched in 1972, it is one of the most sold models of Honda. Born as a three-door hatchback, the Civic, now is a premium sedan that is sold in almost all countries across the world. The Civic is arguably the gold standard among compact cars in the world.

The updated avatar of the Civic has several new features compared to those sold across the world. The 10th generation Honda Civic that was launched in 2016 has received several minor updates globally. But the Civic for India will come with a lot of cosmetic changes and several India-specific modifications, making it the best Civic available across the world today.

Looks

Civic is a beautiful car. From any angle, you would like it. Honda says that the Civic design reflects the grace, sophistication and elegance of Japanese Kabuki dancers. The art form also expresses the inner beauty of thought and mind and hence the design and technology used in the car also reflect these.

Size

The new car looks bigger than the old model. The increase in size is accentuated by the large chrome grille, bumper and headlamps. The headlamp console is in chrome finish. The side indicator close to the wheel arch is not seen in many cars. The shoulder lines on the side extends the entire car body and is very prominent. It has a sloping roof and dual-tone alloy wheels that provide a sporty look. The rear bumper too is large and gets a new chrome bar along the length.

Premium

The Civic has luxurious interiors with dual-tone black and beige colour theme and silver inserts on the dashboard. The driver seat is eight-way adjustable. It gets dual-zone climate control, electric sunroof, seven-inch TFT digital display and touchscreen infotainment system and electric hand brake. Storage spaces are plenty and seats offer ample comfort.

Engines

The Civic comes with a 1.8-litre petrol engine and for the first time a 1.6-litre diesel. The petrol is good enough for 141 ps of power and the diesel churns out 120 ps. The petrol variant is available only with a CVT automatic transmission, while the diesel is available only with a six-speed manual transmission. The lack of ground clearance was a genuine problem with the Civic and Honda has addressed this by raising it compared to the overseas model.

Mileage champ

The Civic offers the best mileage in this segment. While the petrol variant offers 16.5 kmpl, the diesel returns a fuel economy of 26.8 kmpl. Both the engines are equally good in providing a great driving experience as well as pick-up. The well-tuned suspension increases the travel comfort.
