That C Babu aka Weather Babu fosters a unique connect with the rain is no big secret anymore. He is not an official at the weather forecasting center but a teacher of spoken English in Kalamassery, Kochi, Kerala, who loves everything about rain. His unique and inexplicable ability to predict weather and rain is what makes him Weather Babu. He had even predicted last year’s flood in Kerala and those who read his prediction on WhattsApp groups vouch for its accuracy. Babu says that his prediction is not merely bluffing. It is a calculated inference based on valid data. Babu, whose interest in rain began as a hobby, now studies about it scientifically.

“I make predictions about the possibilities of rain by studying the rate of rainfall in Kerala in the last 12 years and comparing it to the geographical features of various areas. It took me 8 years to come up with this mode of study. I have been predicting rains in Kerala for the last 3 years. I have even published Kerala’s rain calendar for the year 2016,” explains Babu. He says that there is no need to be scared of rains. It is linked with the unique geographical features of different areas. Babu explains it isn’t always neccessary that high ranges receive heavy rains.

“Though Kerala monsoon reaches up to Mumbai, it never enters Gujarat. That is because the land in Gujarat is mostly flat. The problem with Tamil Nadu too is the same. The cycle of repetition of the rain is another factor. The position of the moon has a vital connection to the rainfall. Rainfall could be accurately predicted by analyzing all these data and observations. The meteorological department often predicts rains observing the changes in the atmosphere. So, they are likely to go inaccurate,” notes Babu.

Babu predicts not just the rains in Kerala, but the rate of rainfall in Karnataka as well. He claims that the rainfall in any country could be easily predicted by analyzing such data. As per Babu’s latest prediction, Kerala wouldn’t receive heavy rains in the coming few days. Let’s wait and see whether the rains would ‘listen’ to Weather Babu this time as well.
