Man and dogs have been companions for long and the latter always yearn for the love and caring from his master. It is important to make proper arrangements for pet dogs, so that it would stay healthy and happy. If you are planning to allow your dog to live indoors, then it is ideal to choose a dog which does not shed much. The place allotted for the dog to sleep should always be kept clean, and a bed could be made out of papers and old clothes.
The dog should be trained to urinate and defecate outdoor, and giving a physical landmark will help him remember and develop the habit. A paper could be spread on the corner of a room for the puppy. Later it could be trained to urinate and defecate outdoors by place placing the same sheet of paper outside the house.
The rooms should have enough air circulation. The width of the kennel should be a meter more than the length of an adult dog from the head to the end of tail; and its height should be a meter more than the height of an adult dog. The roof could either be tiled or plastered with cement; asbestos sheet too could be used as roof. Laying wet hay or pouring water on the roof of the kennel would be ideal during summer.
The kennel should be placed at a spot where the dog can be alert about the entire surrounding. It is ideal to build the kennel beneath a shade tree. Its door shouldn’t face the sun. It should be spacious, with strong and non-slippery floors.
The dogs could be given soft gelatin toys which can be chewed on. Make sure that your floor chemical cleaner doesn’t contain any elements that could be harmful for the dog. Easy access to a water source is essential. The kennel should always be kept clean using anti-bacterial lotions. Thick bushes and shrubs should be removed from around the kennel to protect the dog from snake bites.
Medicines are available to get rid of all the lice and ticks from the dog’s body.
A special area should be arranged for the female dog to give birth comfortably, and should be left alone when it goes into labour.
