Staring at the computer monitor or mobile phone screens too much will cause eye strain, discomfort, dryness, dark circles, myopia, hyperopia, headache and vision problems. The light emitted by LED and TFT screens could block the pituitary hormones and neurotransmitters and can even affect your sleep. Eventually, this will lead to reduced mental capabilities, stress and anxiety. Ayurveda suggests certain treatments and medications for curing eye diseases and improving eye health:
1) Washing the eyes: You could wash the eyes using cold water daily to remove the dirt and grime. Moreover, it makes the eyes cool and healthy.
2) Avoid these: Makeup items like eyeliners, kohl and mascara contain dangerous chemicals. You could use ayurvedic kohl or medicinal eyeliners to make your eyes look attractive.

3)Head massage: Massaging the head and scalp using coconut oil or essential oils could increase blood circulation and relax the eye muscles. Moreover, it stimulates the tear glands.
4) Rubbing palms: Rub the palms for ten seconds and apply the body’s warmth over the eyelids. However, you must place the palms gently on the lids, without applying pressure on the iris. Do this for 3 – 4 minutes while taking deep breaths. You could try this to reduce stress when you spend too much time in front of computer screens.
5)No direct sun exposure: Try to stand in the shade to protect your eyes from harsh sunlight. You could also wear wide-brimmed hats or sunshades.
6) Healthy diet: Include nutritious food items and make the body cool to improve eye health and balance the pitta dosha. Cucumbers, coconut water, leafy vegetables, grapes and melons are excellent for eye health.
7) Triphala: You could wash the eyes using triphala. Boil water with 1 tsp triphala; strain the liquid after it has cooled down. Dunk your face in the triphala water for 5 – 7 minutes. This will remove dryness, redness and discomfort in the eyes.
