You live only once, but that doesn't have to push us into trying experiences that mar the quality of our lives, for the sake of appearing fun or cool for a moment or an event. Staying drug-free can be a decision that we take early on in our lives, and it can save us a lot of time, energy and life-long health issues and medications. Here are some practical tips to lead a drug-free life from a young age:
1) Set your boundaries
If you feel a friendship, social gathering, community or even a family member would tempt you to use drugs, recognise them and set a boundary. Also, clearly communicate your dislike towards the substance and, if possible, create a support group around you to stand by you.
2) Have healthy energy outlets
Having physically demanding activities like sports, dance, treks, swimming, hikes or volunteering as part of your life can channel your energy positively. Not only can they help you find like-minded people, but they can reduce stress and urge you less to depend on substances. 

3) Be clear on your why
In your mind, be clear on why you don't want drugs as part of your life. It's not to seek validation from anyone but to help you focus on personal pursuits which you feel lend meaning to your life. Also, be well-informed of the risks of substance abuse. 
4) Use tech as your guide
Use tracking or healthy living apps to check the progress of your healthy lifestyle. Accountability tools that share your progress, track goals and motivate you can also be helpful.
5) Seek help if required
If you feel the need for professional help, be clear in your mind that there is no need to feel any shame about it. A therapist, counsellor or even a support group can reinforce positivity in you.
