Anu and Smrithi’s dream abode at Chennithala near Mavelikkara in Alappuzha, Kerala has been built after tearing down their old ancestral home. As the family is settled abroad, Anu’s old parents live in this 2200 sqft single-storey house built in a 17-cent plot.

The classic features of traditional architecture merge with modern facilities in this house. The structure has been built by leaving ample space in the front. Meanwhile, the front yard is paved with Bangalore stones and grass in alternate layers.

Tile-paved GI truss is installed over the flat roof to achieve the traditional look. The car porch, meanwhile, is built away from the structure to highlight the regal charm of the elevation.

In-built sitting spaces are arranged in the long sit-out. The entrance door crafted in exquisite teak wood opens to the spacious living area. The interiors are done in the open theme, making the spaces well-lit and airy. The living and dining areas are arranged as part of the vast hall. Readymade furniture pieces that match the general theme of the interiors have been used here.
