Beautiful two-storey Kollam house built on incredibly small plot

Sanoop and Sangeetha are now thrilled to show around their contemporary abode in Odanavattom in Kollam, Kerala built on a narrow plot. The new house has been built after pulling down the old house that stood there.
It was quite a challenge constructing the house on the 5 cents plot that is just 6 metres wide. After leaving one meter each on both sides as mandatory setback, it got reduced to just 4 cents. So, the elevation features the flat box style to suit the small plot.
Designed in 1944 sqft, this beautiful house has a quaint sit-out, living and dining areas, kitchen with a work area and an attached bedroom on the ground floor. Meanwhile, the upper floor has three more bedrooms and an open terrace too.
The house is impressively space efficient as the interiors are designed in the open theme. Giving importance to common areas on the ground floor and bedrooms on the upper floor is a fine example of excellent space planning.
The bedrooms are quite spacious with attached bathrooms and wardrobes. It was really difficult storing the building materials on the site due to space constraints. So, the owners didn’t purchase materials in bulk; instead, bought them in small batches.
Moreover, they relied mostly on phone calls and WhatsApp calls to oversee the construction as the family was settled abroad. They saw their house for the first time only after the construction was completed. The family feels happy when their relatives and friends say that their dream abode hardly looks like it has been built on such a small plot.
