When there are small kids at home, parents have a hard time keeping the house clean and spotless. Children may scribble on the walls using coloured pens and pencils even before they learn to write, no matter how many times they are warned or stopped. However, these activities are part of their growing up and development of imagination and curiosity. So, it may not be wise to scold them. Instead, better ways to clean the walls should be adopted.

Pencil marks
Compared to pens and coloured crayons, pencil marks can be removed easily. You could rub off these marks using regular erasers if there are only a few strokes. But, make sure that eraser is not stained with pencil marks as it could further darken the walls. Gum erasers that are available in stationary stores or art stores are best to remove graphite marks.

Baking soda could remove any stubborn stain. For this mix some baking soda in water, dip a clean cloth in the solution and rub on the stains with the cloth gently. Using toothpaste is another method to remove pencil marks. Take some toothpaste on a clean cloth and rub on the stains to effectively remove or fade them.
Detergents that aren’t too strong too can remove stains. Mix a bit of detergent in water, dip a cloth in it and rub on the stains. However, make sure to choose detergents that are mild as stronger ones may take the paint off the walls.

Pen marks
Pen marks on the walls could be easily removed using nail polish removers. Dip a cotton bud in the nail polish remover and rub on the pen marks. These cotton buds should be gently rubbed on the stains without taking off the paint on the wall. Toothpaste too could be used to remove pen marks.

Crayon marks
As crayons are made using wax, they will melt easily. You could melt away the crayon marks using blast of hot air from a hair dryer. Make sure to wipe the wax away as soon as they begin to melt.

Apply mayonnaise on the crayon marks for a few minutes before rubbing it off using a clean cloth. After the stains have been cleaned, wipe the wall using a wet cloth to remove the smell of mayonnaise.
You could gently scrape off the wax crayons using objects with blunt edges like a ruler. After the marks have faded, wipe the wall using a cloth dipped in mild detergent solution.
