In many houses, bathrooms are spaces, which reflect creativity in design and slickness rather than essential features. There are instances of sqabble among siblings over occupying bathrooms for longer duration. This habit may even cause rift among couples. Many people consider bathroom time as special as they often spend more time there than in the company of their family.

Villeroy and Boch, which makes high-end bathroom products, has conducted a study to understand why some people spend too much time in bathrooms, which are built for a specific purpose. Information was collected from more than two thousand volunteers for this unique study. Around 43% of volunteers attributed their busy schedules for spending more time in the bathroom. They see their bathroom as the perfect space, away from the hectic lifestyle, where they could spend some moments of peace and tranquillity. However, for 13% of those who participated in the survey, bathroom is a space where they can spend time away from their partners.

As per this study, an average Briton spends around 1 hour and 54 minutes in the bathroom in a week. Correspondingly, in a month, he spends an entire working day in the bathroom. If men spend 20 minutes in the bathroom, women need at least 15 minutes. Meanwhile, people between the of 18 and 24 years rely on bathrooms as a place to rest and relax.

Even though this habit may be annoying for your family members, studies suggest that it may actually be a great way to reduce stress. Those who spend too much time in the bathroom do this without realising that they are trying to find happiness themselves. Besides, experts point out this as an example of rapidly changing lifestyle and habits.

When a person takes a break from their hectic schedule or responsibilities, it may not be acceptable to others. However, bathroom breaks are considered normal in our society. Moreover, it is possible to ensure that you won’t be bothered by external disturbances. All these factors inspire people to choose bathrooms as spaces for enjoying some peace.
