Deepu and Anupama’s dream dwelling in the idyllic countryside of Vannapuram in Idukki, Kerala, could give any luxurious resort a run for its money. Nestled amid misty mountains, verdant paddy fields and serene waterfalls, the house is truly a haven of bliss.

The couple is settled in Chottanikkara for work. So, they wanted a minimal yet beautiful house in their hometown where they could relax and unwind in weekends. Deepu had purchased this plot, a few years ago, in Vannapuram, to build a house.

As they stay here only on weekends, the couple wanted a house that was easily maintainable and didn’t burn a hole in their pocket. The owner read about architect Binu Mohan of Sree Sankara Builders in an article published on Manorama Online. Soon, Binu was roped in to design their dream abode.

Designed in 1420 sqft, this charming house has a sit-out, living and dining areas, kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor. Meanwhile, there is a bedroom and a balcony on the upper floor. The interiors have been designed by staying true to the concept ‘nothing more, nothing less’. Besides, the interiors aren’t burdened with too many furniture pieces, to make maintenance easier.

A simple 360-degree rotatable TV unit is what separates the living and dining areas. You could watch television by relaxing on a cosy couch in the living room or while enjoying meals. The bedrooms designed in 14 x 14 size are quite simple with attached bathrooms and almirahs.

The kitchen and the work area have been merged into a single spacious area as the family doesn’t live here permanently. Meanwhile, the counter in the centre is also used as a breakfast area. Moreover, the cool breeze from the mountains and the scintillating views of the paddy fields could be enjoyed from the kitchen.

The family says that the balcony is their favourite spot in the house. From here, you can enjoy the mesmerizing scenery of surrounding nature. Usually, chairs or sitting areas are arranged in the balconies. However, here, a cot is spread on the floor to lie down and relax in the soothing breeze.

The construction of this beautiful house, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on an extremely affordable budget of Rs 27 lakh. The family feels extremely happy and proud when their guests say that they don’t feel like leaving the house.
