Dr. Shiju’s dream abode at Attingal in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala stands out for its colonial architecture and tropical patterns. The family settled in Germany wanted a colonial-style house that exudes classy vibes. Interestingly, the elevation also features a few tropical patterns to suit the unique climate of Kerala. The incredibly beautiful landscape is what lures one's attention in the first place. The aesthetically designed garden and landscape sprawl in 7000 sqft area in the 38 cents land.
The multi-layered and sloped roof paved with shingles add a colonial charm to the elevation. The house has a sit-out, formal and family living areas, four bedrooms, two courtyards, kitchen with a work area, store room, servant’s room and a balcony. Besides, an outhouse too has been built as a miniature of the main structure.
The house gained popularity after it became the location for the super hit television serial ‘Mangalyam’. Interestingly, the house is now rented out to serial crews at regular intervals.
The grand entrance door opens to a foyer space where the formal living area with double-height ceiling is arranged. From here, one can enter the spacious open hall with the family living area and dining space. The unique designer elements in the dining area are eye-catching. A fabulous designer piece crafted with cycle rim adorns a wall here.
Meanwhile, the staircase is built in sturdy steel and wooden planks have been paved as steps. The vertical pergolas on the double-height space let natural light into the house. The walls are highlighted with natural cladding stones. There is a living area, balcony and two bedrooms on the upper floor. The upper floor is quite simple and is furnished minimally to make maintenance easy.
The glass door in the dining area opens to the patio and the garden beside. The family remarks that this is their favourite spot in the house. A rolling shutter that could be operated using a remote has been installed here for safety.
The bedrooms are elegantly furnished. The bath-attached bedrooms have in-built wardrobes and separate dressing spaces.
The kitchen, meanwhile, has been designed in the classic grey and teak wood colour theme. Lots of storage spaces and cabinets are arranged in the kitchen. Meanwhile, an adjacent work area has been added to make the kitchen extremely functional.
The family is delighted that their dream abode often makes appearances on the mini screen and is loved by the audience.
