Arun and his family’s new home is located in Meeyannoor, Kollam. It is built on a high plot with a rectangular shape and the house has a good view to boast. The house has been designed with all amenities incorporated in a single level for easy maintenance and upkeep. The elevation features a modern flat-box style, predominantly painted white both inside and outside. Considering the relatively hot climate of the area, the design incorporates methods to reduce heat.

Opting for GI (galvanized iron) instead of wood for furnishing helped keep the costs down. The car porch was constructed using GI trusses. Sliding gates were made from GI tubes and GI sheets. The plot had an abundance of laterite stones, which were utilized for the walkway. Baby metal was spread in the courtyard, and pearl grass was planted in the lawn.

The 1,850 square feet space includes a sit-out, living area, dining area, kitchen, three bedrooms with attached bathrooms, and a courtyard. The interior layout is designed with an open plan, ensuring ample cross-ventilation by strategically placing windows in the direction of the wind. A prayer space is set up with a double-height ceiling, and the hall features a roof pergola, allowing the permeation of natural light. This design ensures that there is no need for artificial lighting during the day.

There is a study area on one side of the dining hall. Being an open hall, it allows for the elders to care for children even from the kitchen. A sliding UPVC glass door from the dining area leads to the patio. Opening this door can push out the hot air, maintaining a comfortable and cool ambience inside. Even in small spaces, bedrooms are designed with the necessary amenities. Bay windows are another highlight in the rooms. There is also a bathroom with designated dry and wet areas.

There is no exclusive work area but this is made up for as the kitchen is spacious. Aluminum fabrication was used to minimize costs, and ACP (Aluminium Composite Panel) sheets were used for the cabinets. Galaxy Black granite was laid on the countertop. The decision to keep the house single-storied was considered appropriate as it facilitates easier cleaning, allows for more attention to children, and overall, maintains a warm atmosphere in the family, according to the homeowners. In the inflationary trend, it is noteworthy that the house and the furnishing of it could be completed for Rs 35 lakh.
