Viju and Haidy, both IT professionals, wanted a cozy place to ‘work from home’ when they decided to build their dream abode in a 6 cents plot in Kakkanad. They wished for an extremely space-efficient home as the land costs a bomb here.
The couple had instructed the architect to prepare a plan that allows ample amount of sunshine and cool breeze inside the house. The double-storey house designed in 2800 sqft has four bedrooms and all the amenities that suit their modern lifestyle.
There is a sit-out, living room with a bay window, a patio with a sliding glass door that could be opened from the living area, a small bedroom that could be turned into a quaint office space, a spacious master bedroom with a bay window, a corridor which leads to the family living area, dining space and an open kitchen on the ground floor.
The car porch has been built in the cantilever style to gain more space in the front. Besides, there is a lawn area that is accessible from the patio and a long fish tank too.
Lots of sliding UPVC windows, toughened glass, and steel doors have been installed to let in natural light and air. Interestingly, the use of timber for furnishing is limited in this house. Moreover, glossy and matte finished tiles have been paved on the floor to grant a contemporary vibe to the interiors.
The ‘work from home’ sitting space which is arranged as part of the modular kitchen is a unique feature.
The upper floor has a spacious bedroom with a bay window, a kids' bedroom, a living area, a laundry area, and a balcony which could be accessed from both bedrooms.
Instead of an open grill, the balcony is secured with a unique feature that blends jali made with GFRC and toughened glass. This adds a mesmerizing charm to the elevation of the house.
The spectacular interiors of this amazing abode belie the fact that it has been built in just 6 cents.
