Shabeer Ali is excited to share his experiences of building a beautiful house by retaining the natural layout of a complex and spatially challenging plot.
“My brand new house is at Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district in Kerala. The 15 cents plot lies in three layers on a mountain slope. We had asked designer Vajid Rahman to build a cost-effective house that received ample amount of sunshine and air by retaining the natural layout of the plot. Besides, we wanted the house to have all the modern amenities too. We are glad that Vajid had designed a spectacular house that is better than what we had imagined,” says Shabeer.
The fabulous features of this house begin from the gate itself. The compound wall has been built by installing mesh on concrete box. One could grab a view of the car porch when the gate is opened. Terracotta tiles have been paved on GI frame to build the porch. You have to climb a few steps from here to reach the entrance of the house. There is small driveway that leads to the backside of the house where more vehicles could be parked.
The classy elegance of terracotta stone cladding and kota stones is the highlight of the elevation. The east and the west sides have been left open, without any walls, to receive ample amount of sunlight and air. The GI louvers on the elevation ensure that the interiors are always filled with cool air. The interior spaces have double-height ceilings which make the areas look incredibly vaster.
Designed in 2400 sqft, this amazing abode has living and dining areas, kitchen with work area, four bedrooms, upper living area and a balcony too. The spaces are open and have been furnished minimally. However, partitions have been installed to separate the areas where privacy is required.
A special pergola that takes in only the light and not the heat has been used in this house. Terracotta tiles and glass have been used to design this pergola. Meanwhile, vitrified tiles in matte finish are paved on the floor. The interesting design of the stairway where slabs are covered in rub wood grants a chic look to the area. The designer hand railings feature the classic combination of stainless steel and toughened glass.
The house has beautiful greenery on the backside. The balcony has been designed in a way that allows the family members to enjoy the splendid views.
The construction of this house, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on an affordable budget of Rs 60 lakh. “We feel unique positive energy inside the house. This is what inspires us to greet each morning with joy,” smiles Shabeer.
