Swaran and Raji, both college professors, are thrilled to share their experience about building their dream abode at Payyanur in Kannur district. Swaran, a native of Thaliparamba works at the Payyanur College and had purchased land here. The couple wanted the exteriors of their house to exude the classy charm of traditional architecture while the interiors to have all the modern amenities. The architect has designed this fabulous house, keeping in mind the needs and interests of the family members.

Locally sourced laterite stones have been used to build the structure. The laterite structure has been topped with coats of clear emulsion to bring a designer effect of cladding and the sheen on the pillars. The car porch, meanwhile, has been built away from the structure. Tiles have been paved on GI truss to build the roof of the car porch.

The compound wall isn’t too tall so that the grand elegance of the elevation could be viewed from the road. The GI fencing on the front side looks incredibly stylish. However, the wall in the backside is sturdy as there is a rocky hill in the vicinity.

Designed in 2300 sqft, this beautiful abode has a car porch, sit out, living and dining areas, kitchen with a work area, three bedrooms, library, upper living space, utility area, balcony and an open terrace too.

The interiors don the splendid charm of white hue. Meanwhile, vitrified tiles in matte finish have been paved on the floor. Gypsum false ceiling and matching LED light fittings grant an amazing ambience to the interior spaces.

The furniture and the panelling perfectly match the general theme of the house. Meanwhile, alternate materials have been used for furnishing in some places to keep a check on the expenses. For instance, kitchen has been furnished with aluminum fabrication instead of timber. The cupboards here are done in aluminum composite panel.

The entrance door opens to the elegantly furnished formal living area. A TV unit too has been arranged here. The kitchen, meanwhile, is just behind this area. From the family living area, one could enter the spacious hall where the dining area, kitchen and stairway are included.

The couch and the dining table are made in mahogany. The dining table has bench on one side. Interestingly, there is a bay sitting area close to this space. This is helpful when the couple hosts parties or get together as the guests can enjoy the meal together. Besides, a quaint breakfast counter too has been arranged at the kitchen entrance. Meanwhile, the two high chairs placed at this counter look chic.

The construction of this house, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on a budget of Rs 50 lakh. A significant amount of money was spent to level the multi layered plot before the construction began. Interestingly, the construction cost could be limited to Rs 2100 per square feet, making it a moderately budgeted house.
