Akhil, an officer with the Indian Air Force, built his brand new house at his hometown in Thuvayur near Kadampanad in Pathanamthitta, Kerala. This house is the perfect example of a beautiful house, built by overcoming the space constraints of a 3.5-cent plot. Besides, this house is built on a moderate budget without burning a hole in the owner’s pocket.
The elevation is designed in the contemporary style. The exteriors mostly don white colour, with a pleasant shade of yellow used to highlight its unique features. The ‘C’ shaped feature that is highlighted in yellow around the windows on both the sides is quite attractive.
A protective casing made with GI tubes is installed on the elevation to prevent the dust particles from the road entering the house. Lots of green palm trees too are grown on the terrace and in the balcony for this purpose. Besides adding a hint of greenery, these plants act as a natural defense against dust and pollution.
This beautiful house, in 1170 sq ft area, has a car porch, sit out, living space, dining area, kitchen with an adjacent work area, three bedrooms, upper living area and a balcony as well. The smart designs make this abode space-efficient and amazing. A wall in the living room is highlighted with veneer panelling to install the TV unit. The couch designed in minimal style stands out for its elegant charm.
The interiors don the serene white hue which makes the spaces look incredibly pleasant. Vitrified tiles are paved on the floor. Limiting the use of timber for furnishing played a pivotal role in lowering the expenses.
The dining table is built by fixing plywood over a GI tube frame. The handrails of the stairway too are made with GI tubes. The dining table is arranged near the stairway to save space.
The wall in the upper living area is highlighted using lighter shades of green which is soothing for the eyes. The skylight here welcomes lots of natural sunshine into the house.
The bedrooms are designed based on the theme of minimalism. In-built wardrobes are arranged for storage in the bath attached bedrooms.
The cots too are made by fixing plywood plank on GI frames. The terrace area that is just beside the bedroom is separated using GI pipes and polycarbonate sheets.
The kitchen cupboards are in marine plywood. Meanwhile, the counter top is paved with granite.
It indeed is incredible that the construction of this quaint yet scintillating house, including the structure and the furnishing, was completed on a moderate budget of Rs 20 lakh.
There are quite a few factors that contributed in keeping a check on the expenses. The most important among them was making the house space efficient by reducing the area in square feet. The interiors are decorated minimally and the walls are painted in lighter shades of hues. Limiting the use of timer too was significant. Steel and GI are mostly used for panelling and furnishing. The light points are directly installed without having any false ceiling
