A Kottayam house where modern and traditional designs meet
Mail This Article
When James, who works in England, decided to build his brand new house, close to his ancestral home in Ayarkunnam, Kottayam, Kerala, many were eager to know whether he would go for a contemporary style or stick to the classic traditional architecture. However, engineer Srikanth Pangapad, who designed the house, made it sure that James’ dream dwelling donned a beautiful fusion of the contemporary and the traditional styles that perfectly suited the climate of Kerala.
The beautiful facades above the long sit-out and the car porch, and the wall claddings with ceramic tiles lend a chic and modern look to the elevation. Truss work is installed above the flat roof and the space in between could be used for storage.
This elegant house, in a 2800 sq ft area, has formal and family living spaces, dining area, a side courtyard, four bath attached bedrooms and kitchen with an adjacent work area.
The interiors have been designed following the classic charm of the traditional style. The custom made furniture too has been designed to suit the general theme of the interior spaces. James and his family are thrilled when the guests admire their mesmerizingly beautiful house which features an amazing fusion of the contemporary and the traditional style.
