Yusuf decided to give his old house, with outdated design features, a stylish and modern makeover to host the grand wedding festivities for his son. The two-storied house in Thuneri near Vadakara, Kozhikode, Kerala, was renovated without demolishing too many parts of the house.
The positions of the walls and the rooms are re-arranged to make the interiors semi-open. Unnecessary walls which blocked the passage of light and air were removed. There is a car porch, sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, three bedrooms and a kitchen with an adjacent work area in this beautifully renovated house which has an area of 2800 sq ft.
Among the major changes that were made, the car porch and the sit-out, extended to the front of the façade amazingly altered the look of the exteriors making it more stylish and elegant. A show wall in the exteriors adds to charm of the house. The driveway is separated by paving interlocking bricks. The lush greenery of the Mexican grass adorns the landscape. The old granite flooring is replaced with elegant marble. The newly added gypsum false ceiling with chic LED light fittings make the interiors look incredibly pleasant.
The furniture and the paneling are done in plywood – veneer finish. The Roman blinds add a touch of classy elegance to the windows.
The bath-attached bedrooms have wardrobes and separate dressing areas.
A new modular kitchen is added with an adjacent work area.
It is the dark green show wall which highlights the pristine white hue of the exteriors. The interior spaces are re-arranged to ensure excellent cross-ventilation. This feature plays a vital role in regulating the temperature inside the house. The house got a grand ‘wedding’ makeover within a reasonable budget of Rs 25 lakhs, including the elegant landscaping and new boundary wall.
