The elevation features a unique box style with pristine white hue adorning the exterior walls.

Faizal, an expatriate, is thrilled about his brand new house built at his hometown in Kootilangadi, Malappuram, Kerala, His dream dwelling stands regally on a 20 cents plot, in a small valley, close to his ancestral home. The construction of the house was overseen by Faizal’s father PC Hamsa, who is the vice president of the Moopilangadi panchayat. Architects Riyas and Sajeer of the Covo Architecture Studio, who are Faizal’s good friends as well, were entrusted with the task of designing a beautiful house. Faizal says that he wasn’t tensed at all about the construction as his close friends and family members took care of everything, from drawing the plan and purchasing the building materials to adding the final touches.

The elevation features a unique box style with pristine white hue adorning the exterior walls. The beautiful brick cladding adds to the perfect contrast here. The car porch extends to the facade of the house. The structural work is done using MS in the sit-out, to allow creepers climb it. Gravel is paved on the front courtyard. This house which has an area of 2600 sq ft has a car porch, sit-out, living and dining areas, kitchen with a work area and four bedrooms.

The living area, designed in double height, is the highlight of the interiors. An entire wall here is lined with windows. UPVC glass windows of 2.5 m X 4.5 m are installed in the living area, giving it a unique charm. These windows bring lots of amazing sun shine into the house which illuminates the spaces with natural light. A vertical garden built using mild steel is a striking feature in the living room. The handrails of the stairway are done using MS. A wash area is arranged beneath the stairway. Living and study areas are arranged on the upper landing.

Vitrified tiles in matte finish are paved on the floor. Merbau wood is used to make most of the doors and windows in this house. A gypsum false ceiling, in minimal style, adds to the elegant charm of the interiors.

The TV wall in the living area, a wall each in the dining space and the bedrooms are highlighted using texture paints. The dining table which can comfortably accommodate six people is made using irul wood.

The kitchen cupboards are done using plywood and paint finish. An adjacent work area and a store room complete the kitchen.

Two bedrooms each are arranged in both the floors. The headboards in the bedrooms are decorated with striking wall papers in beautiful designs. Three bedrooms are bath-attached and there is a common bathroom as well.

Construction of this elegant house, including the additional design and furnishing, was completed on a budget of Rs 60 lakh. Faizal vows that he was able to build his dream dwelling well within the allotted budget. There are lots of windows in this house which help illuminate the entire house and fill the spaces with refreshingly cool breeze. So, there is no need to switch on the lights and fans in the house during day time, thereby saving significantly of the electricity bill.
