Luxuriously elegant, this Kozhikode house on 2.7 cents is a wonder

MKA Saleem owned a piece of triangular plot near his ancestral home in Kozhikode, Kerala. He decided to build a house, on a meager 2.7 cents of land. Saleem says that space constraints weren’t much challenging while constructing the beautiful house named Sansar here.

Though the family was apprehensive about building a house on such a small piece of land, they are now thrilled to show around their charming house. Saleem stays at this elegant house with his parents, wife Shameera, daughter Fraseen who is a post graduate student at the National Institute of Design and son Gibran, a plus-two student.

The 1600 sq ft house which has all the modern facilities is built in three levels. The ground floor has a sit-out, living-cum-dining area, a modern kitchen with an adjacent breakfast counter and the master bedroom. There is a family living space, 2 bedrooms and a quaint balcony on the first floor. There is a bedroom on the top most floor as well. All the four bedrooms are bath attached. A bathroom on the first floor is constructed in such a way that sunlight enters it directly. Frosted glass was installed here later.

Houses constructed on small plots usually lack enough supply of light and fresh air in the interiors. However, excellent cross-ventilation ensures abundant supply of refreshing air inside Sansar. Windows made with unplasticised poly vinyl chloride (UPVC) are installed at many places to let in lots of air and natural light. Most of the windows in this house are bay windows.
