When Rahul Ravi decided to build a house on his 3.5 cents plot in Panavally, Alappuzha, he was skeptical whether he would be able to complete the construction.
He had worked hard and saved Rs 12 lakhs to build the home of his dreams. Rahul calls himself a true representative of the middle class people who yearns to build their dream dwelling on a low budget.
He didn’t expect his house to have all the modern facilities as the price of the building materials kept sky-rocketing.
However, designer Binu Mohan kept his promise and built a house without compromising on the elegant look of the house and also the quality of the construction materials.
The elevation of the house is in contemporary style. The show-wall adds a designer element to the exteriors. There is a living room, dining area, two bedrooms and a common bathroom in this house which has an area of 699 sq ft. New furniture was purchased for the interiors and vitrified tiles were paved on the floor.
The elegance of neutral shades can be seen in the interiors which foregrounds simplicity. A wall has been highlighted here to add a touch of contrast. The living space and the dining area are arranged as part of the main hall. The TV unit is set on the highlighted wall.
The construction of the house, including the furnishing, was completed in just Rs 11.5 lakh. Rahul says that a considerable amount of money was spent to build the foundation, by plastering the belts as the surface of the plot, which was a swamp, isn’t firm enough.
Factors which helped complete construction within estimated budget:
The walls were built with cement blocks
Light points are directly installed without the false ceiling
The kitchen cabinets are done in aluminum fabrication
Rahul is happy and proud that he could build an elegant house with all the required facilities, on a low budget, without compromising on the quality of the construction materials.
