Exterior George Joseph’s house is a nook of joy and comfort.

George Joseph was determined to make his post-retirement days the best time of his life. And that was exactly what he told his wife Mercy. His long banking career had come to a close and he had fulfilled all his responsibilities. Now it was time to lean back and savor the comforts of life. Hence, the natural choice was a cozy nest of their own. Their deepest desire materialized when son Gary Joseph saw to it that his parents’ wish got fulfilled. Braving obstacles, Gary got a house put up for his parents on seven cents of land. The size of the plot, its layout and surroundings notwithstanding, George Joseph’s house is a nook of joy and comfort.

The biggest challenge before the design team was to draw a plan, which would suit the very narrow frontage of the plot. As almost all the houses were packed closely, finding the apt space for letting in light and air was a bit of a hassle. Along with a fetching exterior, care was given while incorporating elements like air, light and breeze in the design. The grill on the façade gives the house a polished look and gives it the mod tag.

The interior décor is pleasant. There are no barriers in the form of doors. No jarring colors either. The muted shades are a balm to the eye. This muted taste is reflected in the choice of furniture as well. False ceilings and indirect warm lighting give the rooms their special look. An L-shaped sofa done up in fabric goes with the mood of the room.

The dining space is in reality a continuation of the living area and is defined by its simplicity. Only a courtyard separates this space from the kitchen. The furnishing has been got up in light green. A huge bay window and a glass topped dining table give the place an aura of luxury. A three-paneled window and tiny LEDs brighten up the place.

Adding a touch of style to the house is the staircase. The wooden steps have been fixed onto metal sheets. Glass and steel have gone into the railing design. There’s floor up, a third floor, meant to be leased out. A flight of steps built outside lead up to this floor. The courtyards are what make the house unique. Almost all the windows open out to the courtyard.

The first floor has been arranged to suit the tastes of the couple’s son Gary. The décor here is in gray. The modern home concept of coffee room has been incorporated here. The ceramic floor tiles could easily be mistaken for wood. It gives the floor a different and stylish look. Other stylish features of the house are the windows, which bring in the beauty of the greenery in the courtyard. The study space is a pleasant nook. The wooden paneling on the ceiling is distinctly beautiful.

Of the three bath-attached bedrooms, two are up and one down. The highlight of the kitchen is the cupboards finished in acrylic sheet and wood. The rooms have been designed to suit the individual tastes of those occupying them.

The beauty of false ceiling has its best display in the kitchen. The place has not been cluttered with too many cabinets. The LEDs under the cabinets look attractive. Laminated shutters have been fixed onto plywood frames. A work area stands close to the kitchen.
