An hour after S S Greeshma, who was awarded a death sentence on Monday, poisoned her boyfriend, Sharon Raj, she sent an apology message when she was told that he was repeatedly vomiting, according to the information provided in the copy of the judgement.

After Sharon left her house on October 14, 2022, he began to vomit and an hour later, she sent her first message, "Sorry Ichaya" and then followed up with another message saying it was all because of her.

The prosecution argued that this was her guilty conscience. She would then send messages to him to dissuade him from taking medical aid and tell him that she had also vomited after consuming the Ayurvedic medicine.

She sent a voice message to him and admitted to him that something was wrong with the juice and according to the prosecution, she did that to divert the attention of Sharon from concluding that it was juice and not the ayurvedic medicine which was causing him trouble. Again in the evening, she repeated, "It was because of me, ichaya."

When Sharon died and police started the investigation, Greeshma searched on her mobile phone "How to retrieve deleted data". The prosecution noted that this was done when she sensed danger and police asked her to appear for interrogation. She had deleted all the search history of paracetamol and paraquat and also the incriminating materials from her phone.

Greeshma killed Sharon inch by inch, Basheer A M, the Additional Sessions Judge, noted in his order awarding a death sentence to her for murder. He drew a metaphor and said, "God in the cloud saved the data of crime. Based on the principle of Dr Edmond Locard that one cannot leave the place of crime without leaving a trace of evidence, the accused left a large number of evidence in the cloud".

The special investigation team was able to unearth every single piece of digital evidence, including videos, voice clips and a string of messages she had sent to Sharon to establish how she plotted his murder by poisoning him. In August 2022, Greeshma made 23 searches about paracetamol overdose and toxicity of drugs for two hours between 5.30 am and 7.38 am.

This was her first attempt to poison him. On the very same day, she mixed paracetamol with mango juice in the toilet of the Neyyoor Christian College. Later, at noon, she did a juice challenge and made him drink mango juice mixed with paracetamol.

Barely three hours before Sharon reached her house on October 14, 2022, she searched Google for paraquat (a toxic herbicide), its reaction, toxicity, usage and how to administer poison on her mobile phone. Fifteen minutes later, she started WhatsApp chats to entice Sharon to her house. The poison-laced ayurvedic concoction was given to him between 10.30 am and 10.50 am. She was bent on bringing him to her house that she engaged in a lengthy chat with him the previous night.

V S Vineeth Kumar, special public prosecutor, said that crucial statements of toxicology and scientific experts proved beyond doubt that the causes which led to his death were consistent with poisoning and consumption of paraquat.
