Idukki: Gearing up to celebrate 2018 as 'The year of Kurinji,' the Government of Kerala will deploy additional enforcement officers to effectively tackle the tourist explosion in Munnar.

“The district administration's request for additional enforcement officers has been cleared. The police will get a dedicated 250-member team for the Kurinji season. Traffic will also get a similar deployment,” Idukki district collector G.R. Gokul told Onmanorama.

The police squad will be headed by an officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP). An officer below that will lead the traffic team.

The district administration, which is expecting an unprecedented rush this season, has made several traffic arrangements and imposed crowd restrictions. Read district administration's traffic arrangements in detail here. The new reforms are going to be a daunting task for the special force.

The Neelakurinji season is expected to start from August and will last till October. The government expects to receive over eight lakh visitors during this season. The season is expected to start in August this year.
