The district administration has set up an elaborate plan to control the tourist inflow to safeguard the ecologically sensitive zone as visitors look around for the flowers that bloom once in 12 years.
Old Munnar to be the main hub for kurinji tourism activities
Ticketing: Tickets counters for Eravikulam National Park will be shifted to Old Munnar. But only 25 per cent of tickets will be issued offline. Click to know more about online booking
Tempo travellers: These vehicles will have access till Old Munnar. Those travelling towards Mattupetty area also won't be allowed to take tempo travellers beyond this point.
Tourist buses: Big buses will be stopped at Maryoor, Adimali and Neriamangalam during the three-month season. Only government and private buses that ply on this route will be allowed beyond these points.
KSRTC service: The state-run bus company will start special services to take tourists to kurinji spots like Rajamala from Old Munnar, Marayoor and Adimali. KSRTC will introduce a fleet of 34 minibuses to strengthen this service -- 18 of which will ply to Rajamala and rest will ply towards Mattupetty.
Jeeps and autos: Those who want to proceed from Old Munnar as a group will have the facility to hire jeeps from government-approved outlets. The rates will be fixed in these outlets.
