Thiruvananthapuram: Cinema should not be judged by its mass turn out and commercial high scales, said the veteran actor-director Amol Palekar, during the meet the press event on Saturday.

"In reality we have been brainwashed to think that commercially successful movies are good movies which is a misconception. The propagators of Rs 100 crore club making the audience as passive onlookers," he said.

"When 100 years of Indian was celebrated, movies like Sholay and Dilwale Dulhaniya Lejayenge were only recognized. The real movies were totally eclipsed.

"I always look forward to the experience of coming to IFFK because the audience here is extremely mature, very receptive and is much more than film buffs," Palekar said.

"For a film maker like me it's not only a great pleasure to present a film here in front of such audience, it is also a very enriching experience," he added.
