Java plums aka 'njaaval' are often available in Kerala backyards and even on our road sides. A tasty and refreshing lassi can be made with the colourful fruit, teaming it up with mangoes, in this season. The two-layered drink also looks fancy enough for you to serve it during parties and to kids who are fussy eaters.
Ingredients
25 java plum
1 mango
1 cup yoghurt
3 tbsp sugar
1 cardamom pod
4 ice cubes
3 mint leaves
1 tsp dried fruits (chopped)
Preparation
Peel the mango and keep in the freezer for at least four hours
Blend the frozen mangoes with 1 ½ tbsp sugar, ½ cup yoghurt and cardamom into a thick puree
Blend java seeds with 1 ½ tbsp sugar, sugar, mint leaves and ½ cup yogurt
Pour the java plum mixture into a serving glass
Pour the mango mixture as the next layer
Decorate with chopped dried fruits
Tasty java plum – mango lassi is ready.
