Simple sambar

This tasty sambar does not require too many vegetables and still tastes delicious. Check out the recipe.
Ingredients
½ cup yellow split dal
15 shallots
1 tomato
4 green chillies
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 small piece asafoetida
4 ½ tsp sambar powder
¼ tsp fenugreek
½ tsp mustard seeds
3 dried chillies
Lemon sized ball of tamarind
Curry leaves
Coriander leaves
Coconut oil
Salt as required
Water
Preparation
Take the yellow split dal, shallots, tomato, green chillies, asafoetida, turmeric powder, 1 tsp coconut oil and water in a pressure cooker
Lower the flame when the pressure cooker gives two whistles
Now cook for three more minutes
Turn off the flame after 3 minutes
Open the cooker only after the pressure has been completely released
Keep the cooker, without the lid, back on the stove
Add salt as required
Meanwhile, heat some coconut oil in a pan
Roast 4 tsp sambar powder in it
Add the roasted sambar powder into the pressure cooker
In the same pan, boil some water
Pour the boiled water into the sambar in the cooker
Pour the tamarind water too
Mix well
Take the cooker off the stove after the gravy has boiled well
Heat coconut oil in a pan
Splutter mustard and fenugreek seeds
Roast dried chillies, curry leaves and ½ tsp sambar powder
Add this tempering into the sambar
Give everything a good mix
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves
