Tamarind chutney is a sweet and sour side dish that tastes amazing with dosa, appam and tapioca. There is no need to add coconut in this chutney that can be cooked in just 2 minutes. Check out the very easy recipe of tamarind chutney.

Ingredients
1 tbsp urad dal
10 shallots
10 cloves garlic
1 piece jaggery
1 piece tamarind
1 sprig curry leaves
5 dried chillies
A pinch of asafetida
¼ tsp coriander powder

Preparation
Heat oil in a pan and roast the urad dal
Sauté the shallots and garlic
Add tamarind and jaggery as well
Mix and stir until the jaggery melts
Now add the dried chillies, asafetida powder and coriander powder
Sauté until the raw smell of the powders are gone
Grind this mix along with ½ tsp salt in a mixer jar
Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds
Roast curry leaves as well
Add the chutney into the tempering
Mix well
Tasty tamarind chutney is ready.
