Keralites have a special liking for dry fishes and the tasty chutney powder made with it. Lovers of this dish swear that they could eat plates full of rice with a bit of dry fish chutney powder as the side. Try out this easy recipe of spicy and delicious unakkameen chammanthi podi.

Ingredients
5 dry fishes
1 cup grated coconut
9 shallots
13 dried chilies
Black pepper as required
Small piece of ginger
Small ball of turmeric
Curry leaves
Oil as required

Preparation
Soak the dry fishes in water for at least half an hour. Clean the fishes and fry them in a table spoon of hot oil and keep it aside
In another pan, add the grated coconut and roast well
Into it add shallots, ginger, dried chilies, black pepper and curry leaves
Roast until the coconut turns brown in color and the rest of the ingredients are well sautéed
Add the tamarind and mix well
Now add the fried dry fishes and mix everything well
Allow this mixture to cool down before grinding it in the small jar of the mixer. Add salt as per taste
This dry fish chutney powder could be stored up to a few days in air tight jars or containers.
